Whether they’re hyping magnesium-based products like the “sleepy girl mocktail” or pink lemonade-like drink mixes, wellness influencers are adding to the longtime buzz around taking the mineral for sleep benefits. But do these supplements work? “Magnesium is actually an essential mineral that is needed for more than 300 processes in the body,” said Samantha Cassetty, a registered dietitian in New York City. “We need to get it from our diet, or supplements if we can’t get enough through our diet.” Magnesium supports sleep by helping produce the sleep hormone melatonin, while also regulating blood sugar and blood pressure, energy production, digestion, and bone, muscle and

The US administration has announced that 172 million barrels of oil will be released from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). US Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated that 32 member countries of the International Energy Agency (IEA) unanimously accepted President Donald Trump’s request. The goal of this request is to lower energy prices by releasing a total of 400 million barrels of oil and refined products in a coordinated way. The statement said, “As part of this effort, President Trump has authorized the Department of Energy to release 172 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve starting next week.”
Nearly 40% of nonorganic fruits and vegetables grown in California contain traces of pesticides that are also PFAS, or “forever chemicals,” according to a new investigation.
It’s happened twice now in a week. A telephone conversation between the presidents of Russia and Iran. As the US and Israel continue their strikes on Iran, Russian President Vladimir Putin is styling himself as international peacemaker. That’s not an easy sell. After all, it was the Kremlin leader who ordered Russia’s full-scale invasion of an independent sovereign nation in 2022. Back then, the UN General Assembly had condemned the invasion of Ukraine as a violation of the UN Charter. And while the Kremlin is now calling for “a swift de-escalation and political resolution [of the Iran conflict]”, Russia is
A 35-year-old woman from Orlando, Florida has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting at the home of pop superstar Rihanna, prosecutors said. Ivanna Lisette Ortiz is accused of firing a semiautomatic rifle at the singer’s Los Angeles mansion at 13:15 local time (21:15 GMT) on Sunday. No one was injured in the shooting. Ortiz is being held on bail set at $1.875m (£1.395m), facing a possible life sentence. Police are investigating the motive for the attack that took place while Rihanna and her rapper partner A$AP Rocky were at the home, the BBC’s US news partner CBS reports.
In 2022, a NASA spacecraft intentionally barreled into the tiny asteroid Dimorphos during a planetary defense test. The objective was to assess whether humanity could protect Earth from cosmic threats, such as space rocks. New observations now reveal that the planetary defense test was a success, altering the orbit of Dimorphos as well as that of a larger asteroid called Didymos. Dimorphos and Didymos are a binary pair, meaning that the asteroids orbit one another while also circling the sun — and a measurable change for one will affect the other. The new data show that the time required for Didymos and
Less than two weeks after U.S. and Israeli forces attacked Iran, Americans are already feeling the effects an ocean away. Gas prices are up. Food prices are likely to increase. And volatility in the stock market could threaten retirement savings. President Trump initially said the war would last “four to five weeks,” but he has recently sent mixed signals, at times suggesting it could become a prolonged fight. If it does, the fallout for Americans could accumulate, some experts warned. Consumers could cut back on spending and businesses could stop hiring or resort to layoffs, threatening the broader economy. Here’s how Americans
Born on 8 September 1969 in the north-eastern city of Mashhad, Mojtaba is the second of Ali Khamenei’s six children. He received his secondary education at the religious Alavi School in Tehran. At 17, Mojtaba served in the military for several short periods during the Iran-Iraq War, according to Iranian media. The eight-year bloody conflict made the regime even more suspicious of the US and the West, which supported Iraq. In 1999, Mojtaba went to Qom, a holy city which is considered an important centre of Shia theology, to continue his religious studies. It is notable that he did not
